Explanation:
A common soil type developed on siliceous mineral soil in areas of very high rainfall and low evaporation. The soil has an ash coloured layer below the surface, from which minerals and clay particles have been washed, and an orang-brown deeper layer where some of these have accumulated. Sometimes there is an impermeable layer of oxidized iron. The overall reaction is acid and the soil usually supports only a calcifuge flora.
