But I would add that "traffic INSPECTION" is preferable for official translations, because it is a word-for-word translation and therefore more accurate (for official purposes).
On the other hand, I daresay "Traffic POLICE" will be better for all other purposes, because this conveys a better, straightforward idea of the functions of the institution. If you use "police", a native speaker will understand what you mean right away (they actually do!), but if you use "inspection" MAYBE a native speaker will be at first confused as to "what exacly they do", and then you may need to clarify.
