Russian to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Petroleum Eng/Sci / Geological report
Russian term or phrase: сильно неоднородны, повышенной неоднородностью
This is related to the first of the three questions I've already asked. I've translated the first as "strongly heterogeneous" and the second as "enhanced heterogeneity", but what has enhanced it? If it's already strongly heterogeneous, why or how is this heterogeneity enhanced?

В условиях XXX месторождения, когда пласты **сильно неоднородны** по разрезу целесообразно рассмотреть вариант проведения циклического заводнения не путем пуска и остановки нагнетательных скважин, а путем временного снижения приемистости нагнетательных скважин за счет применения физико-химического воздействия изолирующими и интенсифицирующими реагентами.

В связи с **повышенной неоднородностью** пласта по разрезу происходит неравномерный охват пласта процессом закачки по профилю скважины.

Explanation:
The stratum is highly heterogeneous; its heterogeneity is above average.

The word heterogeneous may be worth a bit closer examination. I was once told by a physicist for whom I was doing a translation that heterogeneous and non-homogeneous do not mean the same thing. I think I might say "non-uniform" and non-uniformity".

Thanks Jack - I thought that's what it must be, but I got tangled up in "enhancing"!
