Russian term or phrase: изюминка
контекст: В каждой женщине должна быть изюминка, которая будет приводить в восторг ее избранника.

вопрос: Должно быть, я где-то не там ищу, но не могу найти эквивалент в английском... изюминка, то есть характерная черта, которой она отличается от других... нужен перевод, а не описание... должен же быть... спасибо :)

agree  Dylan Edwards: You mean just "something" isn't enough? "she has something about her" - well, all right, "special something" (Erika's suggestion is good, too)./Yes, I agree. I was just joking, really, about what a lot of weight that word "something" can carry.

-> Hi Dylan, thanks for your comment. It could be enough in some situations, but this particular sentence just doesn't sound right without a modifier of some kind, be it special or certain. Would you agree?

neutral  Michael Korovkin: Every woman must have a frosting on her cake? What "cake" is a euphemism for? And what do you do with your women over there in Uzbekistan?!!! Well, at least I hope this frosting doesn't crack too much! Yes I HAVE(heard about it).But on a cake–not a woman!

neutral  Mark Berelekhis: I'm with Michael. Besides being really REALLY funny, it's quite simply very very wrong. Sorry. ++ It's simply not an appropriate idiom. Frosting on the cake has a very different meaning.

In google, all texts with "appeal" are from either fashion or marketing fields; same with "should have" / "should know"

Explanation:
the former is how Americans are likely to put it; the latter is how French and upper-middle-class Brits would refer to it.

that certain je ne sais quoi

Explanation:
This French expression has been fully embraced by English, to mean 'that certain indescribable something'. Often used in relation to an attractive quality in a person. Therefore I think it might work nicely in your context.

Etymology

From French je ne sais quoi, literally ‘I know not what’.
[edit] Pronunciation

* IPA: /ˌʒə nə sɛ ˈkwɑ:/

[edit] Noun

Singular
je ne sais quoi

Plural
uncountable

je ne sais quoi (uncountable)

1. An intangible quality that makes something distinctive or attractive.

She has a certain je ne sais quoi about her.

je ne sais quoi
/ʒənə sɛ ˈkwa/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [zhuhnuh se kwa]
French.
an indefinable, elusive quality, esp. a pleasing one: She has a certain je ne sais quoi that charms everybody.

zing!

Explanation:
Each woman should have a "zing" in her that will
throw the man of her choice into raptures of admiration.

Что-то в этом роде...

Примеры:
Like the Scorpion that is her sign, November-born Scorpio has a zing in her personality - or sometimes make that a sting.

Не только жизнерадостность. Может быть обаяние, внутренняя привлекательность и т.п. Я это понимаю как "изюминка", т.к. "изюминка" пришла в речь из давней хлебо-булочной традиции экономить на изюме. Найти изюм в сдобной будочке даже в 19-ом веке было сложно, поэтому надкусив ее и обнаружив "изюминку" человек внутренне счастливо улыбался. Вот такое же впечатление производит и "zing". :-))

clou, highlight

Explanation:
Мое робкое предположение - clou.
clou; 1) основная идея, главная мысль 2) точка притяжения; то, что вызывает интерес

И сразу же, следуя определению clou из Wiktionary, второе предложение - highlight (в значении - An especially significant or interesting detail or event).
