Russian to English translations [PRO] Art/Literary - Poetry & Literature | | Russian term or phrase: управившись с хозяйством | A young girl in Bessarabia running her father's farm after his death in 1940 comes back to the farmhouse after work to learn of the impending invasion.
I always struggle with хозяйство depending on the context. Is it more referring to completing additional around the house after she returned or another reference to the work of the day?
27 июня, вернувшись вечером с поля и управившись с хозяйством, я подсела к маме – попить чаю. |
| | | English translation:completing chores around the house | Explanation: Agreed, "хозяйство" is one of those words that showcases the futility of TMs when it comes to literary translation. I'm reading it the same way in this instance. |
