Since when did literature become so objective? I would not use the words "vivid" or "inventive" to describe the given excerpt. It does not come alive in front of my eyes or make me wonder "wow, what an interesting collocation!"

The author's intent is irrelevant. Their style, on the other hand, is literally right there in front of you. It's vivid, unique and inventive. Some people may like it and some may not, but no one can deny that it's anything BUT bland.

I would say something like "maybe it's dull nerves." It's broad enough to mean both "dead nerve endings" and "dulled emotions."

Синонимы слова "неприглядный": безобразный, замухрышистый, малопривлекательный, невзрачный, незавидный, неинтересный, неказистый, некрасивый, непрезентабельный, непривлекательный, непригожий, плюгавый, предосудительный, страховидный, уродливый. Хоть одно из этих определений в данном контексте подходит для существительного "спокойствие"? Мне кажется, что нет.

А спокойствие, лезущее из ушей вы себе представить можете? Я - нет...

Наверное, я что-то упустил в этой жизни... недостаточно развил в себе художественную образность...
