Russian term or phrase: номер не пролезет
... в этот раз "Едокам России" этот номер не пролезет. Россияне уже устали от ЕдРа и несменяемого тандема. По нашим сведениям, 4 ноября большие шансы имеют "Справедливая Россия" и КПРФ, чуть меньше - ЛДПР и "Яблоко".

Хотелось бы узнать соответствующий термин для "номер не пролезет" в английском языке. Заранее спасибо!

a door is too small for them to fit through

Explanation:
Alice in Wonderland by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. Very appropriate politically! Alice finds a small key to a door too small for her to fit through, but through which she sees an attractive garden.

That's what Kremlin plays today!

neutral  The Misha: Yes, it could be a good one, yet it's a bit verbose for the occasion, and you will really need to build the metaphor up elsewhere for it to be easily recognizable.//Glad you agree. No offense meant at all. Cheers!

that won't wash

Explanation:
What does "won't wash" mean?
Will not stand up to examination, is unconvincing, will not work, as in That excuse about your sick aunt just won't wash. This expression originally alluded to a fabric that would not stand up to washing but by the late 1800s was used figuratively for other kinds of failure.

Clegg's Charles Atlas act won't washThe coalition's weakling is talking tough – but the Lib Dems and the Tories still need each other as much as ever
Nick Clegg said people will see a strong liberal identity that might be called 'muscular liberalism'. Photograph: Christopher Furlong/Getty Images
In February, David Cameron promised "muscular liberalism". On Wednesday, Nick Clegg threw the phrase back at him in a relaunch speech after last week's double disaster for his party. Cameron's target was Islamist extremists;. Clegg's was his coalition partners. The rose garden politics of last summer, when the two party leaders conducted a Downing Street love-in at a joint press conference, are over: Clegg promised a "new phase" for the government. He said that the Liberal Democrats would be more "assertive", even though they're already "punching above their weight". The coalition's seven-stone weakling was coming on like Charles Atlas.

That shocking conservative
George Bush is turning out to be no liberal. Truly
....
But no, that won’t wash. No sooner did he reveal these traces of his real agenda than he covered them over by declaring himself a “compassionate conservative”. What audacious dissembling, his critics declare. Obviously, a “compassionate conservative” cannot be an actual conservative: compassion is good, whereas, it is widely recognised, conservatism is bad. Mr Bush said he was a good man, and now he turns out to be a conservative. Not only that, but one who wants to keep his promises. America just isn’t used to this.

This time around the pig won't fly

Explanation:
There's literally dozens of possible options here. It all really depends on how you work it into the sentence and what the general key of your translation is.
