Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Railroad Operations
A few community colleges and technical schools offer specific associate degrees in railroad studies. The associate degree takes up to two years to complete, and may require that students meet general education requirements. Courses and training cover the mechanics, repair and maintenance of train equipment, signals and electronic switches. Students are also taught how to operate trains and new train equipment including learning how to manage the trains' driving and operation in extreme conditions.
