Retention/retencija =zadržavanje.. akumulacija; retention basin isl. se uglavnom odnosi na sisteme za prikupljanje atmosferskih voda pa mislim da je ovo prikladniji naziv s tim da, ukoliko je primenljivo, bilo bi preporučljivo dodati "industrial" na početku da ne bi bilo zabune..

waste water holding tanks are meant only as a temporary storage facility for waste and are not designed to be a water processing or water purifying system.
That is better left to septic systems or municipal water treatment plants. When you dump the contents of your holding tanks into an approved dump station, the disposal and treatment of these wastes become the responsibility of the station.

Non-hazardous industrial wastewater can be collected and temporarily stored in holding tanks. The kind of tank used depends on the type of wastewater generated.
Most often, collected wastewater is transported to a nearby municipal sewer system for treatment. Small amounts of non-hazardous wastewater may also be appropriate for land application. Natural processes in the soil will help to break down the wastewater faster than it would in septic systems
