This seems to be a particular kind of discharge/release. Perhaps one could say something on the lines of "(assignment to) outpatient status/care".

if he took up the option or not or whether he was discharged or not. We know that something allowed/enabled/made it possible to discharge him temporarily. But as a native speaker of Slovak I would say that he was discharged once. I would not think that he was discharged more than once. Otherwise, it would read umožňoval prechodné demisie.

Dylan - I understand 'umožňoval' in this case to be a sort of ongoing process (as the disease is ongoing), hence the imperfective, even though he may have only been discharged once. Alternatively the condition for his discharge may have been made possible and he didn't take up the option so the possibility is still there... :)

I am not sure about "remisia" as it means "dočasná úľava choroby v priebehu liečby", which does not make sense in this context. So "temporary remission of a disease" yes, but "temporary remission of a patient" probably not.

This is what my doctor said:
..ascites levels fluctuated and it allowed to temporarily discharge the patient to home care.

discharge is what I initially thought as it comes up quite often, but can you discharge a patient in such a condition?
