Este concepto de fondo de maniobra es fundamental para entender un balance como es debido. El fondo de maniobra se define como la diferencia entre el activo circulante y el pasivo circulante. Es decir la diferencia entre los recursos a corto realizables y de liquidez más o menos inmediata, y el pasivo exigible a corto plazo. El valor del fondo de maniobra practicamente sin excepción debe ser positivo.
