Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Marketing - Advertising / Public Relations / packaging/branding
Spanish term or phrase: pastilla
This is for a Spanish brand manual. They're talking about the little coloured circle or oval that goes behind the product name when they print on a transparent plastic bag.

I've got "window" right now, but window implies transparency I think, and this is clearly opaque ('cause the whole rest of the package is transparent). Someone has "inset" in their glossary here, but I'm not sure that works (or does it?)...Any ideas?

La pastilla y la denominación irán aplicadas en cualquier soporte transparente siguiendo siempre estas reglas:

background

Explanation:
Can't think of anything better, and it implies opacity to me. It would also apply to other shapes besides a pastilla.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Yeah, they talk about backgrounds throughout the doc though...They're making a distinction here between a background behind only the name of the product and not covering the whole package...

cartouche

Explanation:
If you use Google Pictures to look up the logos of the two brands mentioned in my references, you'll see that they fit this description. The term is best known as a frame for Egyptian hieroglyphics, but it's also used in graphic design.

  • he packaging’s dark green cartouche and the Green Mountain Coffee logo within it, with its signature coffee bean in the “O” in Mountain, is distinctive.
  • The new brand identity [of Lou's Garrett Valley Naturals sausages] is framed in a cartouche with scalloped edging
