Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Advertising / Public Relations
Spanish term or phrase: Propietaria
At the start of a PR policy booklet where it says the document version number it also says

Propietaria: [name] [e-mail address]
Responsable ejecutivo: [name] [e-mail address]

I know what it means, as in this person has the copyright, or is the 'holder/owner' of the document, but I can't think how to put it in English. I was tempted to put author but that is assuming too much, as she may not have written it, just put it together.

Thanks

Dani

English translation:Copyright Owner
Explanation:
Who is a copyright owner?
Works
Usually the creator of a literary, dramatic, musical or artistic work is the first owner of the copyright in it, but there are several exceptions. One important exception is that copyrights in works made during the course of employment are owned by the employer and not the employee. All copyright ownership rules (except those that relate to moral rights) may be varied by agreement.

Copyright Law of the United States of America
(2) Any of the exclusive rights comprised in a copyright, including any subdivision of any of the rights specified by section 106, may be transferred as provided by clause (1) and owned separately. The owner of any particular exclusive right is entitled, to the extent of that right, to all of the protection and remedies accorded to the copyright owner by this title.

You should remember that as copyright is an automatic right, there are no registers that can be checked to locate the creator or right holder in a work. There are though organisations representing copyright owners who may be able to assist you in tracking them down.

  -> Thanks, Alistair

agree  Jenni Lukac: Hat's off to you for having your head on straight. While holder is acceptable, I'd go for owner; it's standard.
41 mins
-> I posted "owner" as an alternative, as it seems more widely used than the also widely used "copyright holder". Thanks, Jenni :)

agree  Helena Chavarria: Yes, nowadays it seems that the more people "own", the better :)

-> Yep, ownership is where it's at; nine tenths of the law, as they say. Thanks, Helena :)
