Depending on your text, you could even use "space exploration" (if you want to express the notion of "investigación" too).
I would not use "space race" as it denotes the _competition_ between two organizations in this field, or even two countries (such as between the USA and USSR in the past). (See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Race_(disambiguation))
