Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Agriculture / Real Estate/Land Use - Costa Rica | | Spanish term or phrase: chapiado | I am translating a study done by a real estate firm for potential buyers of land in Costa Rica. I have come across this word and I cannot find an English equivalent.
The sentence follows:
6- Estas áreas son muy importantes que sean chapiadas, ya que se encuentran en la parte más alta de la finca, forma un área grande con pendientes bajas (es una meseta), tiene vista al mar y posee vegetación bastante densa la cual se debe limpiar para prevenir que se convierta en un bosque secundario.
I understand the Spanish, I just don't know this word. Any help would be very appreciated.

Algo así te puede servir. "Chapear" significa cortar la maleza o el pasto con machete o por otro medio, pero generalmente con machete. Es decir, limpiar el área de vegetación.

Acá en Guatemala también se usa la palabra "chapear" el pasto o la maleza. En resumidas cuentas, es cortar.

Same thing, some say "chapiar" and some "chapear". Who knows where the words comes from! But believe me, it is the same thing and that is what it means, to cut the grass or the vegetation with a machete
