Spanish to English translations [PRO] Science - Agriculture / crop systems | | Spanish term or phrase: asociacion de cultivos | Context: Sistemas de cultivo: rotaciones, alternativas, mezcla de cultivos y ***asociación de cultivos***
Absolutely no idea and my Google searches haven't come up with anything reasonable. I assume "mezcla de cultivos" is crop mixing, but have no idea how this is different from "asociación de cultivos".
Thanks in advance for your help,

| | | companion crops | Explanation: might be this - like companion planting, for their mutual benefit
Information is limited on the use of peas as a companion crop, for the establishment of perennial forages. Some research suggests that forage peas (Pisum sativum L.) would make a suitable companion crop for the establishment of lucerne (Medicago sativa L) for two reasons: firstly, peas are a fast growing crop that can be harvested early to reduce the duration of competition.

There is much interest in fostering cropping practices that reduce pesticide use and enhance soil conservation. A long-standing practice that addresses these objectives is companion crop establishment of small-seeded forage legumes. Little information is available regarding current producer practices in companion cropping. A survey was conducted in 1990 of a select sample of Minnesota forage producers to evaluate how they use companion crops, to assess their perceptions of current constraints in companion cropping, and to assess their receptiveness to use of dwarf stature small grains as companion crops

10 hrs confidence: mixed-cropping
Explanation: This is suggested alternate wording, because I think the documented other terms here are probably what the source text refers to. There are some great references there that others have researched and kindly posted. I think from the references here and in the other query, plus my own hands-on working experience in agriculture, that, like the 'copra asociada' in Liuiori's query yesterday, the source terms in this other query all refer to the same practices of planting a plot of land with two or more mutually beneficial crops at the same time. 'Mixed-cropping' sounds like the term that farmers would be most likely to use in the USA, and 'intercropping' & 'companion-crops' are more formal terms that are documented in our compadres' replies to your queries. Check out the other term posted yesterday, to see if it helps.
