Judging from the context, I think this is what it means, i.e., using the traps to detect behaviors such as peak flight activity, mating activity, egg-laying activity, etc. to determine when and if a control measure is needed. For some reason I can't cut and paste the links, but googling ethology/etologia takes you right to the English and Spanish wikipedia sites, respectively, where this term is explained.
