Spanish term or phrase: bandeador de cigarro
Good morning, everyone.

I'm translating a claim against a tobacco company and one of the complainants' job is "bandeadora de cigarro". Does anyone know what that is? I can't find it anywhere.
It's from Puerto Rico.

Thank you!

cigar leaf stripper

Explanation:
Another possibility, based on the following:

(Nicaragua)

... buried up to the waist in huge piles of tobacco leaves, which they kept turning round and round with trembling hands, separating the veins from the leaves.

Patent for a machine that does this job:

A tobacco stripper has a pair of counter-rotating gear belts which are used to separate tobacco leaves from tobacco stalks when the stalk is advanced into a nip formed by the counter-rotating belts.

Y sobre las máquinas de despalilles, señor Presidente, estamos conteste con usted porque lo que van es a desplazar la manos de obra de las mujeres; además nosotros no las habíamos solicitados porque esas máquinas para lo que sirven es para bandear y no para despalillar;

Confirmation that bandear has to do with removing the veins from the leaf:

neutral  liz askew: the thing is that "cigarro" = cigar, never seen it to mean "tobacco":)

-> True, though the correct name in Spanish for the band is vitola, or anilla.

agree  Charles Davis: Probably right; "de cigarro" just means part of cigar-making. Same as despalillar, I think (typically women's work). Since "banda" in PR = "capote", the binder (inner wrapper leaf), I wondered if it meant binding, but no evidence of "bandear" for that

-> Thanks Charles! I am just slightly suspicious of PR Spanglish (band into banda?).

agree  neilmac: This could also be correct, but I don't think the difference is crucial for the purposes of the claim, unless specifically linked with a work-related ailment.
