Spanish to English translations [PRO] Art/Literary - Archaeology / The Argaric society
Spanish term or phrase:cal ANE / cal BC
These are prehistoric dates but I am not sure how to put them in English. I believe that cal BC stays the same in English (correct?), but I have no idea about cal ANE. Here are some examples:
1550/1500 – 1300/1250 cal BC
2300/2200 – 1550/1500 cal. ANE
etc...
Any ideas? Could it simply be: cal AD (I got some hits in google)?
I haven't been able to deduce waht A N E refer to, but will continue looking:-)
1. Dates before Christ (also "before the common era") should be written "B.C." following the year (e.g., 1250 B.C.). Dates after Christ ("after the common era") should be written "A.D." preceding the year (e.g., A.D. 1066), but write "4th century A.D." For early prehistory, calendar years may also be indicated by "years ago" (e.g., 125,000 years ago) or "kya" for "thousands of years ago." ****Radiocarbon years should be indicated by using lower case "b.c.," "a.d.," or "b.p." (where "before present" means "before A.D. 1950"), but these conventions must be specified at the point where they first appear in the abstract and in the text: "1250 b.c. (uncalibrated radiocarbon years)" or "3200 b.p. (uncalibrated radiocarbon years before A.D. 1950)." ****When radiocarbon dates have been calibrated to calendar years, use "cal B.C.," "cal A.D.," or "cal B.P." where "present" refers to the present day.

This book focuses upon the bio-archaeological study of the human remains recovered in a Prehistoric cave cemetery from Menorca (Balearic Islands, Spain) dated between 1450/1400 - 800 cal BC*****. Its research has benefited from methods and techniques developed by several disciplines (including human osteology, biological anthropology, forensics and paleopathology) in order to explore previously formulated hypothesis related to six major aspects: 1.) funerary practice; 2.) demography; 3.) biological variation; 4.) diet; 5.) health and morbidity; 6.) main trend activities and 7.) social distance. http://www.archaeopress.com/searchBar.asp?title=Categories&i...

Explanation: BOE = before our era (politically correct for BC)
'cal BC' AND 'cal bc' are technically different (compensated - non compensated)
(before Christ). (b.c. -sin calibrar-; B.C. -calibrado-).
