From an illuminated manuscript:

... aquella torre…que había sido levantada en Chulula, la cual, según los viejos, hicieron de este modo: que de un monte que está en Tlalmanalco, que llaman Cócotl, hicieron adobes aquellos indios ... y que desde Tlalmanalco hasta Culula [sic] estaban estos indios pasando de mano en mano los coquetes (soquetes) y los adobes.

Explanation:
They are hunks of wood, so it probably fits. Think about it. they are near a wooden area and they are building something. they are going to use hunks of wood and adobe to construct these buildings.

It is sometimes spelled zoquete as well, which is also a term used to describe a less than savory person...
