Spanish term or phrase: guindas
More on Mesoamerican pottery. My guess is that this means the color "cherry" but there are no other instances where the use of "cherry" is referenced .... Any other ideas?

"Los motivos más frecuentes corresponden a líneas gruesas paralelas y otras circulares en color negro; líneas diagonales en color rojo con bandas circulares guindas y anaranjadas y círculos concéntricos."

morello (cherry)
Explanation:
This color isn't full cherry, may be we can see it like dark red, but for Mexico "marrón" y "cereza" are different from "guinda"

The reference is from The Oxford Spanish Dictionary.

Felipe--thanks very much. I looked up morello in Merriam-Webster's and it turns out to be a synonym for "mulberry," defined as "a purplish black that is bluer and stronger than black plum" -- it's a new word for me. Thanks!

maroon

Explanation:
bandas circulares guindas y anaranjadas = circular maroon and orange stripes

It obviously refers to the color which would be "maroon", a dark red color.
