Explanation:
It refers to the way the clay is prepared for moulding.

Decantation is the gravity settling of particles in a suspension. Although more time consuming than centrifugation, decantation can also be used to separate the clay- and silt-sized fractions for X-ray powder diffraction. For this technique it is assumed that the coarse fraction (sand and gravel) has been removed and that the fine fraction (silt and clay) has been retained as a suspension.
