Spanish term or phrase: bóveda en saledizo
bóveda en voladizo = corbelled arch, but what is this?

Clarification request(s) and response
aceavila - Noni: 7:47am Aug 22, 2007: Isn't it vault rather than arch? Referring to the way the ceiling is constructed. There's quite a clear article on corbelling here: www.pierreseche.com/los_bombos.htm
Patricia Rosas: 2:44pm Aug 22, 2007: Hi, Noni! I generally translate the term as a "vault" but it seems to also be translated as "arch" (about the same # of hits for each in 'corbel arch' or 'cobel vault'), and that would be the case here since it's a chamber, but what I need the shape of the arch that forms the vault. I looked at your link, but do you think that "saledizo" is just one kind of corbel construction? I thought it might be something else ... Thanks!

Mike: I didn't realize voladizo/saledizo are essentially synonyms, but after looking up those terms and ménsula in Wikipedia, it appears they are. Thanks for your help!
