Patricia, yes it's a departure/starting point heading to Cobá. As I mentioned earlier Chetumal is farther south and Cancún farther north. Tulúm is the closest town to Cobá. You can reach Cobá from Tulúm in probably 30 minutes, whereas from Chetumal

Cobá is an archaeological site/town much closer to Tulum than to Chetumal or Cancún.
