I found a Spanish version of this passage that appears to have been lightly edited to help with comprehension: ... traían los cabellos largos hasta la cintura, sin embargo, había señoras que traían los cabellos largos de una parte y la otra parte la tenían trasquilada. Otras traían trenzas hechas con hilo prieto de algodón. Asimismo, había señoras que se trasquilaban toda la cabeza.

María Eugenia's information is very helpful (as were the comments from Juan Jacob and Enrique), but I think that "shorn" is a safer choice here. I'm not certain that the hair was cut irregularly. It could mean that the hair was closely cropped in places while other strands were left long--which is "irregular"; but in the second instance, it would have been uniformly cropped close to the head. A Enrique: ojo con el "todavía"... no sabemos cuál era el significado en el siglo 16. Para mí (Licenciado en Historia de la UNAM... ya sé, no es ninguna garantía) es cabeza rapada o afeitada. Eso sí era común en las civilizaciones mesoamericanas...

En México todavía se usa trasquilar (con a) para designar a aquél que se hizo un corte de pelo irregular, muy mal cortado, sin definición alguna. "Andas todo trasquilado" se le dice a quién se cortó el cabello sin ton ni son... ¡saludos!
