Somehow, "applied A special treatment" sounds like they coated it with something, and "gave it special treatment" sounds like something you'd do for a person (roll out the red carpet). TIA!!!
El original estuvo en exhibición cerca de medio siglo (1941-1988) en el Museo de América, de Madrid, hasta que en 1989 el Instituto de Restauración y Conservación de Bienes Culturales de España le aplicó un tratamiento especial de acuerdo a las normas más exigentes de conservación.
