Spanish term or phrase: le aplicó un tratamiento especial
Could someone please help me find a phrase that would fit in the context of art restoration?

Somehow, "applied A special treatment" sounds like they coated it with something, and "gave it special treatment" sounds like something you'd do for a person (roll out the red carpet). TIA!!!

Thank you, Rachel. "Underwent special treatment" (but not "a special treatment") sounds good to me. Thanks to everyone for the help!

a specific treatment was applied

Explanation:
Just a suggestion. You could also say: a specific treatment compliant with the most demanding conservation standards was applied. This way, you won't get those ambiguous expressions! :)

Just different wording, since several good variations using 'special' and 'treatment' have already been suggested. Good luck.

Reference information:
I wouldn't use 'a special treatment', but perhaps something like 'received special treatment' may work. See para. 3 of this article.

Hi Patricia,
Glad to be of help. I won't post an answer on this occasion. I think Rachel's suggestion is fine.

Asker: reading that paragraph convinces me (although I thought that given the overall context "specific treatment" might work). Why don't you post this as an answer? Thanks again for your support!
