I'm stumped by several terms in this description of Puuc-style Chac masks found at Chichén Itzá. I've looked at several images, and I don't see anything that I can equate to a "globo" (these sculptures are just a mask, not an entire figure):

• El mascarón de Chac tiene las siguientes particularidades: una banda frontal; ojos en general rectangulares y ***globo redondo***; nariz de gancho muy prologada; boca entreabierta; dientes de múltiples aspectos; colmillos curvilíneos; orejeras cuadradas. En algunos casos en la banda frontal o bien en el inicio de la nariz tiene un rostro humano, como en el Chichanchob y en el Anexo Este de las Monjas.

Explanation:
"Globo redondo", or its more common variation "bulto redondo", has nothing to do with the eyes, or the eyeballs. It is a type of sculpture standing on its own (separated from the rest of the structures), which is meant to be viewed from any point. You have quite a few of them in Chichen, and of course, of Chac; specially, from the Pure Mayan and Early Puuc periods, before the arrival of the Toltecs.

English books on archeolgy and archaic sculpture refer to "bulto redondo" as "sculpture in the round," or just "in the round" if previous context is specifically discussing sculpture (as it is the case in your document).

I just confirmed the term with the Encyclopaedia Britannica. But in your context, considering the poor writing in the source doc., I would say, "sculptured in the round" (with the "d"), which you also see written time and again.

"Chac masks have the following characteristics: a frontal band; in most cases, square eyes, and sculptured in the round; a protruding proboscis-like nose, half-open mouth..."

Asker: Thanks for your answer. Because of the phrasing and the fact that these masks were always two- and not three-dimensional, I think that Desert Fox's answer is probably the right one. This author uses bulto redondo elsewhere in the book, so I doubt that he'd switch to globo redondo. But I appreciate your suggestion!
