Spanish term or phrase:la Mitad
This is a treatise on dependency theory as it relates to social archeology in Latin America. One of the bibliographical references cited is:

I know what mitad ordinarily means, literally. I suspect that this is a reference to "middle of the world" with all that implies. I believe there are waterfalls involved. Book titles are always difficult but the best I could come up with is something to do with water facing the middle or water in front of the middle, which sounds rather dreadful and "translated".
If anyone has insights into this I would appreciate it.

I am truly grateful to all three people who helped out here (mediamatrix, Silvia and Edward). After a lot of research and deliberation, I chose to use this concept. This was an ingenius insight into the meaning and a clever play on words as well. There is a sweat-of-the-brow movement that emphasizes labor exploitation, that ties in with the theme of the treatise overall. I do think Middle of the World in reference to Ecuador is the author's intention and since the site is located adjacent to waterfalls, that can be tied to sweat pouring from the brow of the people, this is an apt and elegant fit. The reason I am giving so much feedback is not only to express gratitude for mediamatrix in offering this smart option, but also to demonstrate how thinking outside the box can be of help in translating. Thanks, Edward - that would be easier, granted, but they want the titles translated - i.e., the Spanish is left intact and a translation in brackets. I just want to come up with reasonable facsimile of the meaning without sounding stilted and too literal, if possible.

Explanation: As you may know, in Ecuador they call the Equator line "la mitad del mundo", which sounds in a naïve way like "half" rather than "middle". So I thought "Water from the Half's Front" would reflect what the title intends to mean.
