Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Science - Archaeology / art and geology
Spanish term or phrase: piqueteo
Dear translators,

I am having real trouble translating this word. Could it be picketing?

Here is the context:

picketing

Explanation:
According to the Oxford Dictionary, which I find quite reliable, "piquete" means "picket" in archeology, so I deduce that "piqueto" is "picketing".

carving /chipping out

Explanation:
I found "escodado" as a synonym for "picoteo". Escodado is carving in the same sense as the explanation in your text. http://www.ortegalia.es/pdf/Apuntes para analisis de Industr... is about rock art as gives the escodado - picoteo connection. From there http://www.ge-iic.com/files/Curso retablos 2004/Ade_la_Torre... gives more information. The basic tools were called "picas" and "picos", which probably explains the use of "piqueteo". The carving was probably down by chipping away (or "pecking away") at the stone's surface.
