agree  Gilla Evans: with Phil on "reduced firing" - the pottery thus produced is known in archaeology as "reduced ware", resulting from the final stages being carried out without oxygen - should be "reduction".

Explanation:
Having agreed with martramp, I have checked my archaeology glossaries and while the pottery is called "reduced ware" the process is known as "reduction firing".

It of course means firing in a reduced atmosphere (without oxygen) and does not relate to the length of time of firing.
