Spanish term or phrase: argumento esgrimido
La lanza de 281x2,5 cm asociada a un elefante en Lehringen (Alemania) es el único ******argumento esgrimido******* para interpretar que fue cazado, lo que unido a la temprana excavación (1948), y a la ausencia de fotografías y planimetrías ha propiciado que la tesis no esté unánimemente aceptada (entre otros por Gamble, 1999).

My try:
The 281 cm by 2.5 cm spear found associated with an elephant at Lehringen (Germany) is the only **argument put forward to hunting**??? . This theory is not unanimously accepted among scholars (including Gamble 1999), due to the lack of photographic and drawing records, and because it was excavated long time ago (1948).

Thanks in advance

piece of circumstancial evidence supporting...

Explanation:
I'd say the original Spanish text is poorly written. A "spear" cannot be an "argument", it can be the basis for an argument... Anyway, I'd reword the sentence and say something along the lines of:

"The 281x25 cm spear associated to an elephant in Lehringen, Germany, is the only piece of circumstancial evidence supporting the interpretation that [the animal] was hunted [...]".

I repeat that I am aware this is not a literal translation, but it conveys much better the original author's ideas.

I have also seen "arguments "raised" and as FVS has mentioned, "put forward". I choose "employed" based on the list that follows.

argument (omit verb)

Explanation:
Maybe it's clearer if you leave out the verb: '. . . is the only argument for considering that it was hunted"

Note 'considering' instead of 'interpreting' - sounds a little more natural and doesn't change the meaning.
