I'm afraid I have another question for you. This time, I'm not sure at all what the correct translation could be in English. I have thought of "calceous cementation" (obviously) but find no examples of this, and I have also tried out "calceous surface hardening/case hardening" but to no avail. Please could you help me?
This is the context:
En cuanto al sitio Kamac Mayu, el análisis geológico del sitio permitió identificar cuatro eventos de deposición: (1) una etapa lacustre, caracterizada por una unidad litológica estratificada de marga pulverulenta con intercalaciones de diatomitas asignada a la Formación Chiu-Chiu; (2) una segunda etapa conformada por una superficie de erosión y cavidades de disolución; (3) una etapa de origen fluvial representada por grava arenosa y arena que modelaron el relleno de una serie de canales formados sobre la formación cárstica, y que según Chong y Jensen (2004) corresponde a una etapa anterior al encajonamiento del actual río Loa y al momento en que se habrían depositado los restos fósiles; y por último (4) una etapa de CEMENTACIÓN CALCÁREA originada por la precipitación de calcita en los espacios intergranulares que provocó la cementación de los fragmentos de roca y formó la envoltura calcárea que cubrió los restos fósiles recobrados en el yacimiento. El sitio Kamac Mayu no posee dataciones radiométricas, aunque la secuencia estratigráfica y la fauna registrada, tales como Macrauchenia patachonica, Hippidion saldiasi y cf. Lama gracilis, además de los materiales de Rheidae aquí descritos sugieren que los eventos de deposición de los restos paleontológicos acontecieron durante el Pleistoceno final. |
