Spanish term or phrase: modulación de columnas

Among the characteristics of a room where industrial electric motors are to be placed, one of them is "modulación de columnas", and the corresponding spec is: "Con 12 espacios verticales modulares de 6” ". The obvious try "column modulation" doesn't seem to fit, and couldn't figure it out yet. Any help? Thanks in advance! Guillermo
