Clarification request(s) and response
patricia scott: 5:53pm Jan 28, 2007: Hola Patricia, could you give more context, pls?
Patricia Rosas: 6:00pm Jan 28, 2007: This is the opening line of a paragraph (following a paragraph listing the company's artists who have died). The sentences after this one are:
En otros tiempos, compradores de Medio Oriente solicitaban enormes candelabros de plata. Y alguna vez, una princesa saudí que acudía a comprar grandes volúmenes cada dos o tres años les hizo otra propuesta: ...
Patricia Rosas: 3:40pm Jan 30, 2007: Thanks to all of you for the suggestions. I think I left out a key piece of information: this company sold fantastic amounts to Saudi Arabians, so I'm still puzzled about what the author is trying to say, but I appreciate the input.
Patricia Rosas: 3:46pm Jan 30, 2007: "de fábula" - I just found this definition at WordReference:
de fábula: absolutely fine, tremendous: las cosas van de fábula, things are going really well

So, perhaps the right way to put this is: For some reason, perhaps a really good one, ...

That would make more sense to me. The company produces fine objects that are worthy of the attention of Mideastern peoples (and everyone else)...

perhaps fantastic/hard to believe
Explanation:
"fantastic" in the old sense!

perhaps apocryphal...

Explanation:
Definitely not surreal.

The sense seems to be that the story that follows about the Saudi princess may not be true....

Suerte.

perhaps a fable/ a fable, perhaps...(or due to a fable)

Explanation:
razón de fábula would mean a fantastic reason - that doesn't seem to be the case, so I suppose it refers to something related to the Princess...
