From a description of the art of Juan Muñoz and Hans Vandekerckhove (quotes mine):

...son representantes de una tendencia del arte que conjuga "la vuelta a la figuración" y la preocupación por la crisis existencial, la soledad y, sobre todo, la incomunicación en la sociedad actual.

Is this simply discussing the "return of figures" in their works of art?

In the English Wiki on Muñoz, they make reference to his "strangely haunting, almost human-like figures".

I guess I'm really confused about the "vuelta" part; did they avoid figures earlier on, is avoiding figures part of the artistic movement they belonged to, or am I just barking up the wrong tree here altogether?

Asker: Podría ser. La persona que ha escrito esto suele ser tan "creativa" con las palabras como los artistas que describe. Sin embargo, un poquillo más adelante viene
