Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Art/Literary - Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
Spanish term or phrase: una muda
In a text introducing an exhibition of Japanese textile art.

muchas de sus creaciones suelen representarse con un espacio vacío en el interior y sus figuras parecen ser de una guarida, de *una muda* o incluso una cámara de refugio, y en este espacio vacío, es decir en “Ma”, se presencia la existencia de una vida.

I understand several uses of "muda" in Spanish, but none seem to fit here. The Spanish text may also be a translation from the original Japanese, where the word "muda" has its own range of meanings. I know "muda" is a common term imported from Japanese and used in English (and I've seen it on factory walls in Spain, albethey non-Spanish multinationals), and usually related to industrial production philosophy.

Nothing seems to fit with "guarida" and "cámara de refugio"

enclosure
Explanation:
Given the context, I would go for this one definition of muda:

"Cámara o cuarto en que se ponen las aves de caza para que muden sus plumas" (http://buscon.rae.es/draeI/SrvltConsulta?TIPO_BUS=3&LEMA=mud...

And as "cage" doesn't seem quite right, I think "enclosure" for this "cámara o cuarto" would be better.

As a "guarida" also has animal connotations, perhaps your 3 spaces could be "a den, an enclosure, or even a refuge/shelter"?

I did also consider "nest" for "muda", but I think the writer is focusing on spaces that offer a particular protection to something or someone vulnerable.
