it would be interesting and probably helpful to know which period we are talking about, and if the paintings are landscapes, portraits etc. as those could have been executed in a certain format in vogue at the time.
The artist is a French painter brought to the court in Seville by the Duke of Orleans. The paintings are of popular scenes of Seville life and according to the text they are part of a body of paintings by foreign artists who are responsible for the clichés associated with Spain.
Good-sized was my initial instinct, but I'm wondering if it means that the proportions were good for the 'square' room.
