Explanation:
I think Jenni has the right lean and clean phrasing for the overall context. But for the phrase itself, I think it has an element of those things holding back the society that isn't expressed (I don't get the progressive, each one more than the next sense that others do).
So I would opt for repetition rephrasing myself, to wit:
"attacks the vulgarities, sins (etc., etc.) of society, all the retrograde/reactionary elements which/that hold it back."
May not be necessary but another option.
