"Character recognition talk" is not an established expression, and in any case "reconocimiento" doesn't mean "recognition" here: it is related to the first definition of "reconocer" in the DRAE: "Examinar con cuidado algo o a alguien para enterarse de su identidad, naturaleza y circunstancias". In other words, they are discussing the character she is going to play, analysing the character together, something that actors and directors usually do. I think the natural way to express this is simply "discussing the character"; any more literal version, such as "during a character analysis discussion" or even "during a talk to analyse the character", just doesn't sound natural, and "discussing the character" really conveys the same meaning.
I should point out that although most people still use the word "actress", and I personally do, it is nowadays becoming obsolete in theatrical circles (I'm not so sure about cinematic circles). The word "actor" is generally used for both sexes. If they need to specify they prefer "female actor" to "actress". It's a PC thing.
