Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Art/Literary - Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting / performing arts
Spanish term or phrase: Teatro a la italiana
Context: "Esta obra se desarrolla en un espacio escénico a la italiana". In Spanish we use this expression to say that the audience of a particular show is going to be seating in front of the stage, I mean the "traditional" way like almost all the theatres are set. We use this expression in opposition to the audience seating in two, three or four sides of the stage.

Can someone tell me if there is a way in English to mean that?

I'm writing a report on my theatre company's new show. I'm translating it from Spanish.

Thanks.

Proscenium stage
Main article: Proscenium
Since the, the most common stage used in the West has been the proscenium stage which may also be referred to as a picture frame stage. The primary feature is a large opening known as the proscenium arch through which the audience views the performance. The audience directly faces the stage—which is typically raised several feet above front row audience level—and views only one side of the scene. This one side is commonly known as the invisible fourth wall of the scene. The proscenium arch evolved from the proskenium in Ancient Greek theaters. This was the space in front of the skênê or backdrop where the actors actually played. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stage_(theatre); STAGE TYPES
