Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Art/Literary - Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting / Baroque painting
Spanish term or phrase: tejido exasperado
This is from a Spanish academic article on Baroque painting and representations of the crucifixion. The author wants US English. In this section it says:

Las evidentes limitaciones que XXXX tenía, sus dificultades para componer, su falta de imaginación, su torpeza con el dibujo y con la perspectiva, todas esas limitaciones quedan vencidas por la tactilidad extraordinaria de las cosas que pinta, sean cacharros de cocina, tejidos o cuerpos. El Cristo de San Pablo es como ese bodegón de Barcelona: madera, piel y tejido exasperados.

I have seen this translated as exasperated, but I'm not sure it works here. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

Thanks! In the end the author wanted to say overwrought, but I think your suggestion would work in other contexts.
