The text refers to "La Claque" a novel by Juan Miñana" which is described as "una sátira sobre una escuela de aplaudidores" -

I presume it means some kind of training centre for "plants" in an audience who encourage people to applaud... but I could be way off :-) Anyone among you read the original?

Thanks to everyone. I decided to drop "school" and this "club" idea was the best substitute. Silly of me to miss the reference to flattery... shows how the obvious can sometimes be lost in complexity.
