Spanish term or phrase: una escuela de aplaudidores
The text refers to "La Claque" a novel by Juan Miñana" which is described as "una sátira sobre una escuela de aplaudidores" -

I presume it means some kind of training centre for "plants" in an audience who encourage people to applaud... but I could be way off :-) Anyone among you read the original?

Thanks to everyone. I decided to drop "school" and this "club" idea was the best substitute. Silly of me to miss the reference to flattery... shows how the obvious can sometimes be lost in complexity.

a school of flatterers

Explanation:
I haven't read the original, but "aplaudidor" is a perjorative word for "flatterer"; "school" in the sense of group of people with similar interests, instead of a teaching center.

Explanation:
la claque es un término en francés que se usa igualmente en Argentina para designar a los aduladores (flatterers) incondicionales de, por ejemplo, una estrella de la TV y son los que asisten a los programas en vivo en los estudios donde actúa su estrella favorita y son inducidos mediante carteles a aplaudir durante el show...evidentemente es satírico

Explanation:
I could be also way off, but 'fan's club and or cheerleaders' perhaps has the same satiric tone

Happy translating ;o)

... a shool of yes men....

Explanation:
Porque el término "yes man" me parece, conlleva más la idea de
adular servilmente... no, no he leído la novela...

"Canned applause."

Explanation:
Although this is not exactly the phrase requested, it is the closed common phrase in English. "Staged applause" is another phrase used in the same manner.
It is really the closest thing to "escuela de aplaudidores."
