Spanish to English translations [PRO] Art/Literary / history, politics, economics | | Spanish term or phrase: burguesía mercantil | This refers to groups that flourished after Venezuela's civil war and transition to independence.
I've translated it as Merchant Bourgeoisie, and the author's questioning this translation.
Does anyone know if this is correct in English? Apparently in Spanish it's a political and economic term.
context
....unos pocos nuevos nombres favorecidos por la guerra, confrontándose con una burguesía mercantil en crecimiento que comerciaba entonces en libertad con el extranjero.
