My context goes like this:

En entrega de potencia el motor está alto de vueltas, por lo que interesa más es cerrar lo más tarde la válvula de admisión, porque aunque estemos en el tiempo de compresión y el pistón suba, la inercia que tiene la entrada de la admisión es más fuerte, por lo que sigue entrando aire.

Asker: Thank you JC. The text is indeed a problem. I´m translating into Romanian. English helps a lot given the lack of good Spanish-Romanian dictionaries.

Explanation:
vueltas refers to the revolution of the engine. RPM is revolution per minute and a standard term. The word "está" tells us this high rpm is unintentional and therefore too high, otherwise it would be "es" meaning the rpm is intentionally high and therefore acceptable.

You should not use "overrun mode". When an engine overruns it is working outside the allowable RPM's with the imminent danger of a catastrophic failure. Thus, it may be referred to as a "condition" but never a "Mode" as the engine is not designed to work under that "mode".
