it was never clear exactly what they were referring to, and the client was not avaiable to help. i think they were mainly just referring to the engine in general, thouigh the writer may have been had a specific part like the driveshaft or turb-charger in mind (without making it clear enough)

Have you considered the possibility that it may be referring to the Turbo?

here is an example where both are used together: "Su formulación tiene un reducido contenido de cenizas, incrementado la vida del motor, y por lo tanto es un aceite que no produce ningún problema ni para éste, ni para el propulsor." it appears to be oil for racecars ...¡thanks!

Posiblemente al hablar de propulsor estén hablando del "drivetrain", o sea, el sistema que transmite la energía que produce el motor.

Why not post an example of one of the sentences you mention here?
