Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Biology (-tech,-chem,micro-)
Muchas gracias

disagree  Dr Neil Ashby: Hindered rotation is what it says, this occurs when there are two physically large groups which obstruct (but do not prohibit) rotation. AS from the context we are talking about "rotacion inpedida" due to C=C double bond there is 'NO FREE ROTATION'

-> Are you suggesting the impossibility of rotation about a π bond is not "hindered rotation"?

Geometric isomers with no free rotation about the carbon-carbon double bond

Explanation:
Here I believe that the rotation is not just 'hindered' but impossible due to the carbon=carbon double bond. Whereas, the explanation offered above and the reference itself is referring to 'hindered rotation' due to large groups.
Reference says: "The inhibition of rotation of groups about a bond due to the presence of a sufficiently large rotational barrier to make the phenomenon observable on the time scale of the experiment is termed hindered rotation or restricted rotation."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decene
See this ref. for information on the impossibilty of free rotation when there is a carbon-carbon double (or any pie bond) involved.
"-decene is the only possible isomer of decene that does not exist as a pair of diastereomers. 2-decene, for example, has a double bond between carbon 2 & carbon three, therefore, both carbons are bonded to an alkyl group, and a hydrogen. The pi-bond in a carbon-carbon double bond does not allow for free rotation (which is the case for sigma bonds), so there are two possible orientations. Put very simply, if the alkyl groups (carbon containing substituents) are on the same side of the pi bond, then the compound is said to be a cis diastereomer." etc......

A further eaxmple (see ref. above the clearest example is 2-butene)

My 8 years studying and 4 years teaching chemistry also helped me come to these conclusions!! ;@)
