There were some scientific studies done around this location in Ecuador. I suppose one might call that a "bretañal"?

This is the grassland area (Poaceae) of the cloud forest about 2,500m high. However bretaña is a hyacinth and I don't know of any zone that could reasonably be called a bretañal.

In Peru, it seems like this zone would be just above the yunga. That's sometimes called the "Quechua zone".

What country are we talking about here?

Might this be "puna" containing hyacinth species?

BTW,this is the only incidence of "bretanal" that I found, albeit on a translated site....therein lies the difficulty, however if the original name is kept, the rest of the text describes what it actually is.
