"Retains the right to" is a correct expression (150,000 hits in Google). However "reserves the right to" is a far more popular expression (about 2 million hits). I guess that "retains the right to" is somewhat stronger, legally speaking. So, you should check your "original". Is it something Company X actually retains the right to, or just a conditional clause: Company reserves the right to... (in case).
