I'll give you a whistle


Explanation:
The Spanish verb "chiflar" literally means "to whistle". I don't understand how others have proposed equivalents like "to phone" and so on. If we were talking about the speech of a certain country, and we knew that in that country "chiflar" has the secondary meaning "to phone", one could propose "to phone" as an equivalent. But we don't know what country the expression comes from. Therefore the only possible translation is "to whistle." To propose anything else indicates an inability to think logically.

neutral  Martin Cassell: I don't think we have to insist on literal correspondence between source and translation. I'm sure the originator did not feel constrained by whether the term is listed in some dictionary.
