Spanish to English translations [PRO] Bus/Financial - Business/Commerce (general) / Conditions of Sale
Spanish term or phrase:Muestras
Hello. This is from the Conditions of Sale for a Spanish company selling everything from household appliances (fridge/freezers, washing machines, etc.) to air conditioning units and hotel/catering equipment, as well as spare parts for all of these. Not much context to go on really. I gather it’s a “try before you buy” sort of arrangement (although from the context it seems more like “buy before you try”!), but just can’t think of how to put this into UK English. The “muestras de material” in the context refers to all of the equipment mentioned above, so I can’t use “samples” here.
Any ideas?
Context:
“3.- MUESTRAS
Todas las muestras de material deberán ser solicitadas bajo pedido y serán facturadas. Una vez devueltas serán abonadas íntegramente salvo en los casos en que hayan sufrido desperfectos o modificaciones.”
Explanation: I wonder would this work. Do they have a trail period in which to test the products?

If it's selling to businesses, it could mean display models. But as we don't have any more context (and that's not your fault), I think the only appropriate translation is "samples". I've never seen "muestras" used to mean "try before you buy" or "sale or return".

Asker: Cheers Lisa. Yep, this does indeed work. I spoke to the client over the phone too, to confirm (as I had other queries), and this is exactly what they described in broader terms. I delivered "Product Trials". Points to come – Happy Christmas :)
